my name is not khan
salam
its been quite awhile, eh?
my nocturnality made me watch My Name Is Khan. it was a good movie, no kidding. we could really use a lot more good movies like that. or better.
the story revolves around a genius autistic muslim guy named rezvan khan (played by shah rukh khan - been awhile too, eh? haha) living in the united states facing a lot challenges after 9/11. how he made a change in the community just by showing a simple act of love and compassion. and i really like how they portrayed that a muslim should have izzah in them, and that being a muslim should be a pride.
this is an excerpt of one of the good lines from the movie:
imran: it's time for the bus to leave.
rezvan: but it's prayer time.
imran: prayer time? now? here? you should pray depending upon the place and the people around.
rezvan: no no, no. prayer should never depend upon the place or the people. it should depend only on your belief.
i remember when i was in montreal, i never felt prouder being the only girl who wore a "towel" wrapped around her head (so as my colleague told) walking around the building.
what i like about the movie is the cinematography. its like a hollywood movie with the nice color contrast and the smart angles and oh yeah, the background music is nice too. dont worry there's no scene where the rahul and his anjali swirling around a floral park and sing like nobody's looking in this movie. and the choice of the hindustani songs has evolved too. they sound cooler this time without missing the authenticity of a hindustani song. so this is like a modern hindustani movie where the setting is in the US, the songs are way cooler, the cinematography is much much nicer and they managed to speak english without much twirl (still there, but lesser) in their tongue. good job. plus the jokes they cracked pulled off too. gelak la jugak. hehe
what i like the most is the storyline. while the theme is about muslims post 9/11, the idea of how the story goes is different. i tried to expect the clicheness in this movie but failed. well maybe i wasnt creative enough. but you still can find the cliches of a hindustani movie here, though. like, umm. ok why dont you see for yourself? hehe.
of course this movie is not 100 percent perfect. there's a few things that i dont really agree in this movie. but i think the good message that they tried to convey outweighs the defects. i think.
been a month since i last wrote here and all i could come up now while the dawn is breaking is a movie review? haih
chow now.
p.s. its 10 10 10. anybody's getting married today? haha
